A new addition to our range of controlled drugs cabinets the CDC1030 Controlled Drugs Cabinet is 850mm in Height, 500mm in Width and has a depth of 300mm.

This cabinet comes with three adjustable inner shelves and has a volume (capacity) of approximately 128 litres. It is a medium size cabinet designed for the larger purveyor of Controlled drugs.

The cabinet weighs approximately 39kg and is designed to be wall fixed using the four anchor bolts supplied with the cabinet.

On the rear of the cabinet are four 11mm diameter holes reinforced with 3mm thick anchor plates through which the anchor bolts pass to secure it to a wall.

It is important that the CDC1030 Controlled Drugs Cabinet is fitted securely to the wall otherwise this will undermine the security of the cabinet. With this in mind we advise a competent person be employed to install the cabinet should you have any doubts as to your own ability in this area.

The cabinets feature 6 Pin Euro-profile cylinder lock which incorporates an Anti-pick, anti-drill and anti-bump together with fire resistant features. A full length Piano hinge is used on the door with welded pin to prevent forcible hinge pin removal. In the unlikely event that the hinge pin is removed the cabinet door has a full length folded return which prevents the door from being removed even when the hinge is disabled.

We operate a continued process of improvement in our design and production of our Controlled drugs cabinet manufacture methods. The new systems installed on these machines allow pre-programming of all the various bend permutations associated with the numerous different cabinet types we manufacture. For instance a  CDC 101s Controlled Drugs Cabinet 480mm H x 560mm W x 160mm D requires different bend sizes to  for example a MED-300 Medicine Cabinet  900mm H X 600mm W X 300mm D. With the systems available to us with these new machines the particular bend sizes peculiar to each product type is programmed in just the once and recorded. Therefor when the next batch of Controlled drugs cabinet manufacture is undertaken of a particular cabinet type these specific details are presented to the operator. When the part number is input the machine will move the back stop to the correct position for the first bend, automatically calculate the required bending pressure for that bend and wait for the operator to action the process. Once that bend has been carried out the machine will set its self-up for the second and any subsequent operations in the sequence. This helps reduce operator error and ensures with the use of the correct bending tonnage, the machine is not overstressed and damaged.

These machines were installed during 2014 and have proved to be a very valuable addition to our Controlled drugs cabinet manufacture method.

There are legislative requirements that relate to the storage of certain schedules of Controlled drugs, see “The Misuse of drugs(Safe custody) regulations 1973”.

A prospective licencee or Licencee’s business will carry out specific and different tasks within their premises which their security measures should seek to mitigate. In order to mitigate these security risks there are certain minimum standards that must be met and the measures set out in  “The Misuse of drugs(Safe custody) regulations 1973” are seen as an acceptable minimum standard.

When considering fitting Controlled drugs cabinets:

Layers and levels of security should be considered.

1. Outer layer or the protection of the surroundings that are necessary for particular risks or your particular surroundings ( Illumination, fencing, CC TV ect.).
2. Secondary layer or the protection of the building or the part of the building that the Controlled drugs cabinets are to be fitted ( burglar alarm, bars on windows ect.).
3. Core area or the Controlled drugs cabinets them selves.

Where possible when  fitting Controlled Drugs Cabinets they should be installed in an area already protected by an approved intruder alarm. If not then consideration should be given to adapting an existing system to cover the area in which the  Controlled drugs cabinets are to be fitted. When fitting Controlled Drugs Cabinets deciding on the correct position  is very important and the following points should be satisfied where ever possible.

• Fit the Controlled drugs Cabinets in a room that does not have direct access to the outside of the building.

• Wall mounted Controlled drugs cabinet should be fitted so that the top of the cabinet is not more than 1750 mm from the floor.

When fitting Controlled drugs cabinets to the wall or floor it is important to use the correct fixings. The manufacturer must include these with the Controlled drugs cabinet as part of the BS2881:1989.

Controlled drugs cabinets must be fixed to a block or brick wall or concrete floor with at least two rag bolt ( expanding bolt)  fixings. Each fixing must pass through an internal anchor plate of at least 3 mm thickness and with a surface area of 19355 square millimetres. The anchor plate is to reinforce the area around the fixing to prevent forced removal from the mount.

In some new buildings construction of internal walls is done using a studding and plaster board technique  which is unsuitable for fitting Controlled drugs cabinets. In this instance a suitable floor fix cabinet can be purchased which could be fitted to a concrete floor. If none of these are a suitable alternative a solution must be discussed with your accountable officer or suitably qualified person.
