Environmental and Sustainability Statement

At Pharmacy Medical, we have always considered the environmental impact of our products and production processes. Ever investing in new technologies we aim to keep our footprint as low as possible.

We are committed to minimising our environmental footprint and promoting sustainability in all aspects of our operations.

As an SME based in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, we specialise in the manufacture and supply of healthcare furniture and recognise recognize the importance of responsible environmental practices.

Our factory draws power from the solar panels on the roof of our paint shop which significantly reduces our reliance on non-renewable energy sources and decreases our carbon footprint. Furthermore, we are constantly investing in the latest technologies to improve our production processes and reduce our power demands. This sustainable energy source and use of technology aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship and demonstrates our dedication to operating in an environmentally responsible manner.

Pharmacy Medical have always considered the environmental impact of their products and production processes. Ever investing in new technologies they aim to keep their footprint as low as possible.

Products

Here at Pharmacy Medical, we manufacture all our products from metal. This is a recyclable material and results in a product that can be widely recycled. For example, our controlled drugs cabinets are 100% recyclable (excluding packaging). Furthermore, all parts of the manufacturing process are designed and processed to minimise the amount of waste created. Any steel waste is also recycled.

General waste and recycling

We employ Veolia to dispose of our general wate and recycling. All waste within the company is categorised into general and recyclable and split into the appropriate bins for disposal. All Veolia sites are accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. The bulk of our cardboard waste is now recycled on site into packaging.

Solar power

We have a dedicated array of photovoltaic cells on the roof of their powder coating building. These cells produce much of the electricity needed by the company in an average work day.

New Technology

The installation of a new fiber laser cutter has significantly reduced our power requirements. So much so, new electricity contracts were needed to be negotiated on its installation.

Painting

The powder coating process is the most resource hungry process on site. The gas oven is roughly the size of a single decker buss and needs to be kept at just below 200 degrees to cure the paint. We have been able to significantly reduce the amount of gas used by keeping the oven serviced regularly and managing the times at which the oven is on. Rather than having it on all day, it is now only on when required. This has significantly reduced the our gas requirement.

Transport

We use a fleet of our own vehicles, combined with DX Logistics, DPD and Palletways for deliveries. Most goods are delivered by DPD. We use DPD for many reasons, however their environmental push to green vehicles is a big factor. DPD hoping to build the largest all-electric delivery fleet in the UK. They have over 1500 electric vehicles operating throughout England, Scotland and Wales, and are continuing growth and investment in these vehicles to deliver all electric on the streets of our cities.

Other areas

Utilising LED lighting through the business and recycling process heat to heat the building, we are trying the upmost to reduce any wastage where possible.
